About Me

Hi, I'm Aruna.

I have a degree in Linguistics from the National University of Singapore, and for over 5 years, I worked in early childhood education, teaching in the classroom, mentoring other teachers, and building curriculum for children from 18 months to 6 years old.

My Story

Linguistics taught me how language actually works, sounds, structure, and how English spelling connects to speech in ways that aren't always obvious. But it was the classroom, not my degree, that taught me how children learn to read. Watching hundreds of children move from sounds to words to sentences, and mentoring teachers on how to guide that process, is where I actually learned what works and what doesn't.

When I had my own daughter, Sonya, I realized how much of what I knew from the classroom didn't easily translate into "just teach your child at home." Most parents aren't given a clear system, just scattered advice, worksheets, or classes that outsource the process entirely. So I built Phoneme Baby to close that gap, real linguistic principles, explained simply, applied to real family routines.

I don't believe in pressure, worksheets your child dreads, or making parents feel behind. I believe every parent already has what it takes to teach their child to read, they just need someone to show them how, clearly and calmly. That's what I'm here for.
