Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from parents

Is this right for my child's age?

Foundations of Reading is built for children roughly aged 2 to 6, from first building listening skills through to reading simple sentences. If your child is older and already reading some words, our free resources are still useful, but the course is best suited to foundational level.

My child has a diagnosed reading difficulty or is behind in school. Will this help?

Our content is built for general phonics foundations, not diagnostic or intervention support for dyslexia or other learning differences. If your child has a diagnosed need, we'd recommend working alongside a specialist, and you're welcome to use our free resources as a supplement, but please don't rely on them as your only support.

Do you cover grammar, comprehension, or speaking skills?

No. Our focus is specifically phonics, the sounds and letter patterns that let a child decode words. Grammar, reading comprehension, and speech development are outside what we teach.

Is this for English as a second language learners?

Our method is built around English phonics specifically and assumes a base of spoken English. It hasn't been built or tested for ESL instruction, so we can't promise the same results for a child still developing spoken English fluency.

Do I need any teaching experience?

No. Our resources and course are built for parents with zero teaching background. Every lesson tells you exactly what to say and do.

How much time does this take per day?

Most steps take 2 to 5 minutes a day. This is designed to fit into an already busy household, not add a new burden.

Physical or digital, which should I choose?

Physical flashcards work well if your child learns best through touch and especially if you're based in Singapore. Digital versions are instant, and work well if you're overseas or prefer printing at home.

Do you offer 1:1 sessions or consultations?

Not currently. Phoneme Baby is built as a self-paced, resource-based system rather than 1:1 teaching or consultation.

Do you do classes for children?

No. Our focus is to empower and equip parents so that you have the confidence to teach your child.
